Closet revamp on budget

Planning a capsule wardrobe sometimes means revamping your clothes. All of you who face this challenge, who want to slightly reduce expenses related to closet revamping or those who want an „on budget” approach to the shopping – read this post. (If you’re just getting started with a capsule wardrobe, first read this one).

Closet revamp – the reasons

Closet revamping is usually caused by several factors, either together or separately.

1| The need to refresh your closet

A minimalist approach to the closet most often involves limiting shopping. In a given season, only a few items are purchased or even it happens sometimes that you don’t feel a need to buy anything. It is normal that you would like to wear something new from time to time. After all, minimalism does not mean full fashion asceticism.

2| Completing the missing garment

If you are at the stage of creating your wardrobe from scratch or changing your style, you surely have a list of things that are missing. The same goes for building a decent clothing base. (Not sure what the clothing base is about? Read about it here and then in this blog section.)

3| Replacing things that have worn out

Things also simply wear out, so it may happen that you need to buy something to fill the empty space.

Clothing revamp – have a good plan

Whatever the reasons, changing clothes in the wardrobe requires a plan. While it is easy when you need to replace an item, the desire to refresh the wardrobe or change the style of dress require a bit more thought. So what to start from?

Specify your preferred „look”. Is there anything you want to change in the way you dress? Do you have a preferred color or style? Do you have your inspiration? Review the trends for the season. Minimalist women can also be „up to date”. Some trends are based on timeless elegance, so you may find that something that is popular in a given season simply hangs in your wardrobe and only needs a bit of refreshment or accessories to emphasize it.

If you want to change something about the way you dress, get some inspiration. For this purpose, you can browse Instagram (e.g. look at this account or this), Pinterest, lookbooks of clothing brands (e.g. the Massimo Dutti brand inspires me). You can create a moodboard, Pinterest board, or just take notes.

Closet revamp – have a list

Make a list of the things you need. Review it the next day and see if you are sure everything is necessary. You can prioritize things. If you decide to shop, a meticulous list will make it well-thought-out and you will avoid wasting time and money for unnecessary expenses. You can also define your budget. Consider which items on the list are worth more money and which can be bought for less.

Sales

Take a look at current sales. Especially this year is crazy! Due to the pandemic and the losses connected to it, many brands lower their prices more often and more visibly to gain customers. Sales are as high as 70%. However, pay attention to the quality of clothes so that they will serve for many seasons. Look around for discount codes online, maybe there will be a small saving anyway. I have been only shopping online for several years. This way it is easier for me to see the offer of stores, I can quickly compare things and prices.

Sit and wait

If an item is of a low priority, you can wait until it is on sale and hunt it down for a much lower price. It takes a bit of patience, and it doesn’t always work. However, if you succceed, you have a lot of savings in your pocket. The advantage of online stores: when an item is sold out, it’s worth checking the site from time to time in the hope that someone will return the wrong size.

Second hand clothes

You can also shop second-hand on Vinted or local second-hand stores, where you can even find new items with tags. New or little-used clothes are also resold in Facebook groups dedicated to specific brands. The results of this search can be surprising but often it need time and patience. For example, the elements from my summer capsule shown in the photo here are all second-hand – from vinted and Facebook group. The T-shirt and flip-flops were completely new, the jacket and shorts were in perfect condition (a total of 40 euro instead of 150). If you are looking for timeless things, the fact that they are from the previous season will not bother you. You can also take a look at Ebay, where you can also buy new branded things with a tag, only from the previous seasons.

Have a nice revamping, friends!
