How to clean your closet to quit „having nothing to wear” problem
The question of how to organize your wardrobe in order to have clothes to wear only seemingly makes no sense :). In most cases, going through the wardrobe and putting the clothes in order does not solve the problem of „I have nothing to wear”.
About how to organize the items in a wardrobe I wrote previously (links are at the end of the post). I heartily recommend them as a method for organizing action, which is not an easy one. Meanwhile, when tidying up your clothes, apart from the method of segregating and separating the gold from the sand in terms of age and degree of wear, there is another aspect that is important. It may turn out that an overview and cleanup is not enough to be able to easily choose an outfit every day.
So what to do to keep your wardrobe in order and to have clothes to wear at the same time?
Ordering the wardrobe should be based on our personal style or the style we want to adopt. My experience shows that we do not always buy what suits our style. Instead, we choose what catches our eye, what is „hot” or what looks cool on someone else. Let’s not forget about the price bargains that often make a price the main determinant of our shopping decision. I know that I am not alone here and that many of you have such clothes hanging in the wardrobe. Or those that were „worth having” or those that were needed once and never again, but stayed on the hanger much longer.
If the only cleanup criteria are: condition of an item or appearance out of date, we may end up with a garment that doesn’t fully represent our style. Thus, there will be still things in the closet that we do not want to put on. At the same time, the amount of clothes will not encourage you to buy new things that not only look good, but also feel good and reflect your personality. The closet will look complete but „I have nothing to wear” problem will come back like a boomerang.
Wardrobe overview based on style
Looking carefully at every cloth while tidying up your wardrobe, you should answer at least 4 questions:
is it damaged?
is it up to date or timeless?
does it reflects my style or complete it?
and the most important: will I wear it with pleasure?
This is why the style analysis is one step ahead of tidying up. It is difficult to answer the penultimate question when you cannot define your style exactly. The reason may be that you have never thought about your style, have not specified it, or are just discovering it. Therefore read those posts first: (How to define your style: part I and part II).
Only then should you start going through the wardrobe. You will be in a better position to define what you are leaving behind and what you are getting rid of. Perhaps it will not be difficult for you to get rid of things that are still in fairly good condition, and that do not go hand in hand with your style and personality. The method will also be useful when there are items hanging in your wardrobe that are relatively new, but which you only move from one pile to another, but also never wear. If you leave them in, you will have the impression of a lot of choice, but you stay with the „I have nothing to wear” belief.
Creating a minimalist wardrobe is also easier with this approach, as it helps to get rid of excess items that would otherwise be unused.
When reviewing your wardrobe, consider the following:
– does the style of clothes match your idea of your own style?
– does the wardrobe contains elements of the clothing base?
The effects of my wardrobe review based on style
Here are the results of my wardrobe review. The previous one was 4 years ago and it was classic: it’s old, it’s new, it’s damaged, etc. The things in this pile, as new or undamaged now will find a new owner. I got rid of all the „office style” shirt blouses that were left over from my previous job. They are quite stiff (although made of cotton) and I have never really felt comfortable in them. I also don’t wear classic fabric trousers anymore. Two pairs of ballerinas were worn, one out of fashion, though hardly used. In fact, I don’t know if I have worn the hat more than twice, well, not my style :).

Write in comment how you cleanup based on the style analysis went.
